Booyakasha!

I just started watching the second season of Ali G and I must admit that this guy is brilliant. For the unacquainted, Ali G is the television program in the UK conceived and performed by a guy named Sasha Baron Cohen. During the program, he adopts 3 different personas -- Ali G (a ghetto warrior complete with flashy track suit and bling bling), Borat (a reporter from Kazakhstan) and Bruno (an effeminate fashion reporter) -- to poke fun at American culture by conducting crazy interviews with people various parts of society. He does so by asking pretty serious and important-looking people really stupid questions like "When will animals have the right to vote?"

In addition to being amused by the expressions of bewilderment on the faces of his guests, often these ridiculous questions make his guests say rather insightful things like "It would be hard to prove that almost every animal...could understand what they're voting about." If you think about it, how many human voters really know what they're voting about?

One thing that really puzzles me about this show is how he manages to get interviews with all these people who seem to have no clue that they are being made fun of. The Kazakhstani government has since found his Borat character so offensive that they banned his Kazakhstan-based website! Anyhow, go check it out the show if you have never coz it's just hilarious! Respect.

p/s: In 2004, Ali G spoke at the Harvard Class Day ceremonies. Check it out here.
